Large Print Comes to Independent Bookshops

10 August 2026

Ulverscroft's full large print range is now available for independent bookshops to order through BatchLine for the first time.

This comes at a good moment to ask a simple question: can every reader who walks into a bookshop find a format that works for them?

Around 2 million people in the UK live with sight loss that can't be fully corrected. One in ten people are dyslexic. Millions more experience reading anxiety, ADHD, or cognitive fatigue that makes standard print harder to engage with. Large print isn't a niche product for a small audience. It's a format that supports a much wider group of readers than most people realise.

What's happening?

Bookshops can browse and order from Ulverscroft's full catalogue through BatchLine, with new releases added every month. That includes bestselling authors like Richard Osman, Danielle Steel and James Patterson, alongside a deep range of fiction, crime, saga, historical and non-fiction titles across our imprints: Charnwood, Isis Large Print, Linford and Magna.

Why does this matter for independent bookshops?

Independent bookshops are at the heart of their communities, and we know readers have been asking for more accessible formats on their shelves. Until now, stocking large print hasn't always been straightforward.

"By making our titles available through BatchLine, we're making it easier than ever for booksellers to stock the formats their customers need," said Diana Edmonds, Director.

What makes large print different?

All Ulverscroft editions are produced with high-contrast text, clear typefaces and reader-friendly layouts designed to support accessibility for customers of all ages. These aren't just bigger words on a page. They're carefully designed editions that reduce cognitive load, improve comfort and help more people enjoy reading for longer.

What does Batch say?

"We're delighted to welcome Ulverscroft as a Batch partner," says Izzy Carlile, Managing Director of Batch Ltd. "This shows Ulverscroft's continued support for independent booksellers. By helping to improve workflows and save time, Batch continues to make day-to-day processes easier for both booksellers and publishers."

The bigger picture

Ulverscroft Ltd's commercial activity directly funds the charitable work of the Ulverscroft Foundation, supporting sight-loss organisations, libraries and community reading initiatives across the UK and internationally. Every large print book a bookshop stocks helps sustain projects that improve access, wellbeing and connection for people with visual impairments.
